When is a good time to monetize?
The SBI mail about this you get already after 30 pages.
Though Nisandeh said something about a minimum of 100 unique visitors a day (can't remember the exact reason).
Also, when searching SBI it says:
have good quality content (this is a nobrainer), enough visitors (sure, otherwise you won't make a nickle) and.. here comes.... at least 4 quality inboud links like DMOZ or Yahoo.
But DMOZ takes forever and Yahoo.... anybody here thinking about submitting to Yahoo for that around 300 USD fee?
Well I think to myself: Forget about those four links, if you got steady traffic, you got steady traffic. Traffic to monetize on.

Do you? I mean, you know you site is not truly non-profit, it's just not making profits yet.
Yes I know. I am not going to wait for yahoo or DMOZ or anyone else, but fact is, up to this point I have too few unique visitors to get some decent money out. I want to triple my traffic and then add google adds.
But I will start writing good key word pages for my affiliates and include my link in my recommendation. Only prblem is, that I have not actually used these products so I feel kinda like a liar when recommending something I have not tryed myself. How do you feel about this?
I won't feel like a liar since I will read the book first if it's a book. In fact, I even feel that asking a review copy for free makes me less objective, so I'm considering buying. I know this is not the best commercial attitude, but it's my attitude in doing things in life. I cannot act different 'just for the money'. So if you feel like a liar, then don't do it. How you feel about yourself is much more important than speeding things up now.
About the Yahoo directory. Since it takes much more than 7 business days for them to review your site, by the time they get to it you'll probably have adds and affiliate programs on your site and then it won't classify for the free category.
About exchanging links, posting to forums etc. Notice that a lot of forums use the NOFOLLOW tag which means the link to your site is not followed by Google. The only reason to post in forums is for the human beings that can click your link to find out more and to create buzz. So not for SE's.
Yes I consider buying these things as well, but with my site it is not about a book or two, it is about all sorts of products, ranging from meditation mats to buddha statues, to homestudy teacher programms (500$ +). I am not going to buy all these products myself... Yet I want to include them on my site and earn some money from affiliate programs. Any suggestions?
Indeed Yahoo will most likely not classify me, so I won't wait for it either.
Thanks, didn't know that about the nofollow. But the reason I post there is indeed for the visitors, not for the google ranking. BTW.. when will we get our pageranks updated :p? Nobody knows exactly right?

Ik herinner mij dat Nisandeh heeft gezegd te gaan monitizen als je 100 bezoekers per dag hebt. Hij heeft wellicht dit aantal genoemd omdat je er dan zeker van kan zijn dat je website voldoet aan de kwalificatie "good content".
Dan meen ik mij te herinneren dat hij ook meerdere malen in de eerste cursus heeft gezegd je niet zelf aan te melden bij Google maar dat Google zich bij jou moet melden. Volgens mij is dat omdat je dan bewezen hebt een echt goede website te hebben.
Het volgende is dat hij ons verteld heeft is dat je pas over 12 maanden iets zult gaan verdienen met je website en dat het werk dat hiervoor gedaan moet worden in die voorliggende 12 maanden plaats vindt, oftewel nu dus.
Ik begrijp de behoefte om te willen gaan monitezen, en ook ik moet mijzelf iedere dag even weer tot de orde roepen. Hetgeen mij dan weer kritisch naar mijn content laat kijken waardoor ik inderdaad de hele boel toch weer ga re-writen.
Volgens de formule: C - T - P - M is het genereren van Traffic, met het doel die 100 bezoekers per dag te behalen, gewoon de komende tijd het doel waar je je mee bezig moet houden.......
- schrijf een e-book en gebruik de hoofdstukken als artikelen (met een link naar jouw website natuurlijk) die je in de vrije directories plaatst
creeer off-line buzz door bijvoorbeeld visitekaartjes te laten printen met daarop je website en vermeld erbij dat ze jouw e-book gratis kunnen downloaden, of plaats een advertentie in het clubblad van de plaatselijke vereniging (verzinhet maar, kan van alles zijn)
De vraag is wat jij zelf voor je jouw topic kan monitizen? Wat kan jij zelf doen e/o maken om te monitizen? Kun je dvd maken of een cd met meditatie geluiden of zoiets? Ben je in staat om een video te maken en die te verkopen?
Heb je al uitgezocht welke producten je als affiliate wil gaan verkopen en heb je hiervoor al kontakt gelegd met de betreffende bedrijven?
Anyway, er is volgens mij nog genoeg te doen voordat aanmelding bij Google echt kan plaatvinden, denk je niet?
Yvonne, ik vind het ene heel mooi verhaal, alleen heeft niemand in deze thread volgens mij iets gezegt over het aanmelden bij google? of mis ik iets..
Anyway, je hebt helemaal gelijk, EN, denk ik, dat je bij 50 unieke bezoekers ook wel kunt gaan monetizen, omdat je dan al voorbij de fase bent van het geaccepteerd worden door directories. tenminste, in mijn geval. Op DMOZ en Yahoo na dan. maar zoals ik al aangaf, die heb ik een beetje losgelaten.
Dan heb ik je verkeerd begrepen wellicht?
Monetizen is toch "Google Adsense" + Affiliate commisions + selling own products?

Klopt, monetizen is precies dat en aanmelding bij Google betrof aanmelden bij zoekmachine (dat is dus idd niet nodig).
Aanmelding bij Yahoo betreft een directory (zoals DMOZ of in Nederland een startpagina dochter) en dat kost wat.
Vandaar de verwarring die ontstond.
