Dear Nisandeh,
I have another question.
When I get my Google Alerts in my mailbox, I am not quite sure whether I can copy that for my blog, or whether I have to use the news, to make up my own article.
So often it concerns other brands, names and I am not sure whether it is allowed to use that information.
That also goes for excellent books on silk. Am I allowed to name the book and its author, or do I have to get permission from them first????
Greetings from Marguerite
...I am not quite sure whether I can copy that for my blog, or whether I have to use the news, to make up my own article.
You cannot use the news as they are. They are copyrighted.
You can use the material in the news - to write your own article. In your own words.
So often it concerns other brands, names and I am not sure whether it is allowed to use that information.
I believe you can mention brand names, and people names in your articles.
Am I allowed to name the book and its author, or do I have to get permission from them first?
No problem mentioning a book's name and its author's name.
You can even quote a paragraph or two, as long as you make it clear that it is a quote.
And when you start monetizing you can sign an affiliate agreement with Amazon.Com and earn money for every time someone bought the book through your link.
Thank you very much, Nisandeh.
Great help!!

Dear Marguerite,
I would like to react on your question about copyrights. All fixed figures, statistics and that kind of things are copyrightfree. If you want to use names, I recommend you to refer to the source. When you have doubts if you can use the information, maybe you can send the person an email.
That is how I do it in daily life, as a journalist/textwriter.
I hope that this information is useful and understandable for you. If not, please send me an email.
Greetings and a big hug,
Ron
I think the issue of copy&paste should not be looked at from a legal perspective only.
1. There is no point in creating duplicate content to score search engine-wise.
2. You are not adding value to your information for your visitors when you just do copy & paste.
