RE: Nisandeh's Review - Best-Dog-Food-Guide.com

Hi Nisandeh,

Thanks for reviewing my site.

I've made the adjustment to the dog-labeling page (adding more space between the bullets), changed the term Site Log to Blog (I was doing this to distinguish it from my REAL blog as the SBI Blog is not real... included it though for SEO purposes.. was this the right thing to do though?).

The text in the banner is real, I've just uploaded a graphic without text and added this in SBI (same goes for Benthino) though it looks very integrated, doesn't it? Smile

QUESTION:
To change the name dog-food-houndbytes.html to dog-food-free-newsletter.html: will I loose points now and gain more in the future + (more importantly I think) How can I check who is linking to this page (from outside my site) so I can let them know (at least one website is linking to this page directly). Are there ways around this? I've come across this same problem with 2 other pages that I would like to rename which are prebiotics.html to change into prebiotics-for-dogs.html and probiotics.html to change into probiotics-for-dogs.html. But there are many links to these pages and I cannot create two duplicates right (making the old one an orphan)??? What do you think?

Hmmm.. I'll ponder for a while about the dog food video. Can't think of something valuable now. I have seen some bad movies (like house wife in kitchen cooking for her dog, taking forever, boring).

Finally about your last remark:
QUESTION:
I cannot find an option in SBI to NOT put a page in the NAVBAR but to do include it in the TOC (it's either both [tier 2] or neither [tier 3], which is why I was wondering already how Yvonne succeeded in getting so many links in the TOC without getting them in the NavBar area.. @Yvonne (or any one else Wink - can you explain?) I'm attaching the menu option in the SBI menu to show this.

.bmp File  navigation-issue.bmp (Size: 77.42 KB / Downloads: 6)
Suppose it's not just leaving the Text to go on the button empty, right? Though it says 'and/or' so it should be possible.

QUESTION:
To have the 'Contact Me' as a NavBar button seems more accessible to the visitor. When I remove it, would the best thing to do then to change the page footer as access link to the Contact Me page or do you have a better suggestion? Please let me hear your thoughts.

Last QUESTION concerning this review:
I've noticed the Social Bookmark option on other sites. How is this done?

All the best,
Barbara

RE: Nisandeh's Review - Best-Dog-Food-Guide.com

Just did a little experiment in getting pages in the TOC but not on the NavBar by checking the radiobutton though not entering text for the button. As this needs to propagate on SBI before this change in the NavBar will show (takes longer when you have more pages) I'll go to bed first and see whether this worked tomorrow.

Experiment worked! "I always love it when a plan comes together" (Hannibal) Wink
Both the disclaimer and the links page are now in the TOC but not in the NavBar.
Just thinking about what to do with the Contact Me page (see question yesterday's post).

Found the info for Social Bookmarking on SBI forum:
http://sbitips.sitesell.com/social-bookmarking.html

So only 2 out of 4 questions in yesterday's post remain:
changing file names & broken links
advice on contact me page

All the best and paws up!

Barbara

Great site indeed Barbara, keep up the good work.

One question:
RSS Feed – great that you added it to your NavBar on everypage.
Later you might want to add the social bookmarking possibility…

how do I add this to my site and what are the benefits exactly?

Benthino,

Bit off topic here, right? Wink

Click on the RSS/Blog it! button on SiteSell Central. You'll come to a page you need to fill in and then you'll have it.
It's makes it easy for visitors to stay tuned to what's new on your site.
The blog doesn't look nice I think, that's why I had called it Site Log at first (since I don't think of it as a real blog as SBI calls it).
First I didn't blog though opted for RSS. Later I decided to add the Blog for SE-purposes. Not sure to what extent it will help, though SBI recommends it.

As for your question about the Blog header image and pixels.. look in the Q&A posts. It's already there (answer from Nisandeh on a thread I started.. according to my memory).

About changing file names.
As a rule of thumb - I wouldn't remove/delete a file that already has links to it.
If it's really important to you to change file name you can do one of the following:

  1. Create another page, with new content, with the new name.
  2. Create a duplicate of the old page and save it with the new name.

In both cases you leave the old page, with the old name - so any visitors coming to it can find their way to the rest of your site.

About your Contact page.
I would probably leave in where it is. It's not such a big deal - and it seems that people actually using this link on your site.

RE: Nisandeh's Review - Best-Dog-Food-Guide.com

Hey Bert,

Everytime you click: "Add a SBI page" or whenever you edit an already existing page, on top of your editing page, you get to choose whether or not you want this page to show up in the navbar on the left.

It says something like: "Inlude this page on your site's navbar" and then you can select yes or no.

Then it sais: "If yes, what would you like your navbar button to state: ....."

Thats the box in which you write the navbar button's title which shows on the left of the site.. you know all this right?

Now if you select "Yes" and include this page on your site's navbar, but leave the space for the navbar titling empty, it inserts your page in the Table of Content on the bottom of your 1st tier page.
